GTEBORG from Sweden, September 27, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Volvo Bus is expanding its electromobility offering worldwide. With the launch of the new Volvo BZL Electric chassis, Volvo Bus provides a solid platform for sustainable and efficient public transport in cities around the world, as well as reliable and profitable operations for customers.
“We are committed to leading the transformation of our industry towards a more sustainable future. With the launch of the new Volvo BZL Electric, our ambition is to deliver the world’s most responsible electric bus systems. We do this by focusing on durability, safety and reliability, ”says Anna westerberg, president of Volvo Bus.
The global demand for electromobility solutions in the public transport sector is increasing and Volvo Bus expects to increase rapidly in the coming years.
“With the new Volvo BZL Electric, we are providing a global platform for clean, quiet and fuel-efficient public transport to meet growing demand in important markets that are ready for the transition to electromobility,” says Anna westerberg.
Circularity is important
Respect for the environment is at the heart of Volvo and sustainability, less noise, less emissions and less CO2 are essential. Volvo Bus has a wider reach than that.
“We take a life cycle perspective and take responsibility for the environmental impact of our products, from cradle to grave. This means that we make sure that the materials, manufacture, operation and recycling meet the highest environmental standards, ”says Anna westerberg.
At Volvo Bus, circularity is important and the new Volvo BZL Electric has been developed to be over 90% recyclable.
Volvo reliability, efficiency and safety
Volvo Buses has years of experience in electromobility solutions through close collaboration with operators around the world. The new Volvo BZL Electric is designed for single and double decker applications with multiple options for bodybuilders.
“The new Volvo BZL Electric is based on proven and successful technologies already implemented in Europe. All chassis and drivetrain components were developed and manufactured by Volvo. To preserve the premium qualities of our buses, we partner with selected bodybuilders around the world ”, declares Dan Pettersson, international manager at Volvo Bus.
An electric bus is always part of a system. Route length, frequency, capacity, pricing, and local regulations all mean different solutions.
“Thanks to our experience, we know that we have to work closely with our customers and partners to be able to adapt electromobility solutions to each city. And through our global service network and dedicated service teams, we can ensure the reliability and effectiveness of our products and services, even from a long-term perspective. This is to avoid any unplanned downtime, ”says Dan Pettersson.
Safety is a guiding star at Volvo, and the new Volvo BZL electric meets the highest European standards for superior driving and safe operation. It includes Volvo Bus’s latest connected technology offering, Volvo Connect. With features like Volvo Zone Management, the operator can create safe zones where maximum speed is limited, for example outside a school or in a bus depot.
First-class driving experience and charging flexibility
The Volvo BZL Electric is fitted with a drivetrain developed entirely by Volvo. The 200 kW electric motor is mated to an automated two-stage gearbox. This increases the torque to the wheel at low speeds and equalizes current peaks, thus reducing power consumption and maintaining the health of the motor and battery. The drivetrain can be configured as a single or dual motor unit with an output power of at least 540 hp. This makes the Volvo BZL Electric a tireless climber and enables fast and smooth operation.
The Volvo BZL Electric is designed to provide charging flexibility using hardware interfaces for high power OppCharge on the road as well as CCS charging in the depot. Volvo Buses also offers a usable energy commitment, which means Volvo Buses guarantees the capacity of an agreed amount of energy for the operation, eliminating customer worry about batteries.
